Canada January leading indicator climbs

Canada's composite leading indicator gained 0.9 percent in January from December, lifted by household spending and the housing sector but with manufacturing exerting a drag on the index, Statistics Canada said on Friday.
The median forecast of analysts in a Reuters survey was for a gain of 1.0 percent.
Volatility in the aerospace industry caused a decline of 1 percent in manufacturing new orders, following a gain of 8.1 percent in December, Statscan said.
Canada's red-hot housing sector posted solid gains in both housing starts and existing home sales, pushing the housing component of the index up by 1.3 percent. Full Story |
