New Zealand - CPI down 0.2% in Dec quarter
The consumers price index (CPI) fell 0.2 percent in the December quarter, giving an annual rate of 2 percent. The latest figures released by Statistics New Zealand (SNZ) today follow the surprisingly high 1.3 percent CPI rise in the September quarter, when the annual rate was 1.7 percent, its lowest level in more than five years. The December quarter data was below expectations. In a Reuters poll of economists the median prediction was for no change to the CPI in the three month period. Separately, the food price index also released by SNZ today fell 0.3 percent in the month of December from November. Full Story
