ECB Update: Recovery To Continue, But May Have Lost Momentum

The eurozone's economic recovery likely continued in the fourth quarter but may already have lost momentum, data and comments from European Central Bank officials suggest.
While central bankers do not see a W-dip recession as the main scenario, ECB Executive Board member Lorenzo Bini Smaghi Monday warned of persistent downside risks stemming in particular from potential credit constraints.
"Survey indicators suggest that real GDP growth remained positive" in the final quarter of 2009 and "activity is likely to improve further, but with expansion remaining moderate and probably uneven," Bini Smaghi said.
