Japan Leading Index Lowest Since May 2014

The leading index dropped to 103.5 in August from 105.0 in the previous month. Economists had expected the index to fall to 103.4.

The latest reading was the weakest since May 2014, when it marked the same 103.5.

The coincident index that indicates the current economic activity also decreased to 112.5 in August from 113.1 in July. The expected score for August was 112.3.

Similarly, the lagging index that reflects the past economic activity, fell to 115.2 in August from 116.0 in the preceding month.
