US Treasury to borrow 73 bln usd in July-September quarter
WASHINGTON (Thomson Financial) - The US Treasury estimates it will borrow 73 bln usd net marketable debt in the July-September quarter, and anticipates an end-of-quarter cash balance of 60 bln usd. The new borrowing estimate is 31 bln usd higher than Treasury predicted in its April financing outlook. Treasury said the higher public borrowing is because of increased spending and lower issuance of special debt securities to state and local governments. In the October-December quarter, Treasury expects to borrow 74 bln usd, ending with a cash balance of 30 bln usd. In the April-June quarter, Treasury paid down 139 bln usd of net marketable debt, finishing with a 25 bln usd cash balance.
